Max Blog Battled A Linking Issue Head On.

by struck2007 (05/10/2008 - 01:50)

Hi there,

I guess there are still glitches within the WordPress System so my dear friend Pawan tells me in an e-mail I recieved from him yesterday. We stand to learn from his experience no doubt, please read his e-mail to me below and see what he came up with as a solution.

"Today morning I wake up with over 40 emails telling me that none
of the links worked in my previous email.

Well, I had forgot to hit the publish button for that post.

Here is the *working* link again:

Sorry for the trouble.

If you are wondering what I'm talking about, below is the email
I had sent you yesterday:

-----------------------

There's one problem in Wordpress that irritates me a lot. It's
the way Wordpress creates the post link. It will take your post
title whatever it is no matter short or long and use it as the
post link.

If you have got a short title then it's no problem. But what if
you have got a really long title?

Long urls look ugly and it's irritating for most of the people.
That's not only the problem. It has several more problems which
many people don't recognize.

Here is a blog post which tells you exactly what the problems
are and also how to fix them:
http://www.maxblogpress.com/blog/94/why-using-wordpress-out-of-the-b
ox-is-a-bad-idea-in-terms-of-the-post-link-it-creates/

Ooops... There is one more problem with long links which you may
have noticed just now. The above link is not clickable. The long
links always get broken by email programs and all you end up
with is unhappy friends, subscribers or customers whoever
received those emails.

If you noticed that this was the default url suggested by
Wordpress. I had to edit my post slug to make it more user
friendly and search engine optimized.

Here is the optimized link:

Make sure you read that blog post so that you don't make the
same mistakes which most bloggers do daily,"

Best Regards,

Pawan Agrawal

Well, there it is,an issue with long links and Wordpress but as we read,Pawan devised a solution too.
